Andre Nizetich Interviewed For The Real Hair Truth

                    Andre Nizetich

Andre Nizetich is recognized as one of the première hair color educators.  Andre is also the owner of a salon specializing in hair coloring, and is the author of two books: “The Simplified Approach To Haircoloring “and “Teaching Haircoloring”.

Andre co-founded the “International Haircolor Exchange,” a prominent group of haircolorists who meet annually to share ideas.  He is currently serving as president of the American Board of Certified Haircolorists.  Learn from the very best! Andre is considered one of the very best haircolor educators in the nation. Part of the reason  is he has done it for such a long time.

But he also has a keen sense of what it takes to covey information to the new learner without confusing them. If you ever taken one of his classes you will know what we are talking about. Andre has colored more swatches than anyone else in the country. His props used to give the learner a clear understanding of what happens when you color hair.
His dimensional hair coloring and foil placement are the best in the salon industry. His motto is the more proficient you become the more money you will make. This class will take your foil placement skills to a new level. If you are a beginner or if you are looking to refine your foil placement skills this class is for you. Andre’s matter of fact approach to teaching hair color makes learning a pleasure.

This is not a manufacturer-sponsored class. His teaching works with anyone’s haircolor. If you ever have an opportunity to attend his class don’t miss it, he is great.

Furthermore, Andre travels throughout the US administering the certification examination.

He is dedicated to improving the status of the professional haircolorist. “Being certified establishes oneself and gives potential clients the ability to select those haircolorists that have reached a higher level of competence”.

Consumer campaigns are planned in the future as ‘certified’ members increase in numbers , offering consumers a better way to determine the level of professionalism they are seeking.

The test acknowledges that hair coloring is a complex discipline that requires additional study and experience before one can be considered professional.

WELCOME TO THE REAL HAIR TRUTH — L’OREAL

A week or so ago I was sent a email that really startled me. Hearing and reading the truth from an individual who has a very respected Haircolor Certification within our industry, I knew this was something from a David And Goliath Movie. Below is an email sent to me from Andre Nizetich The President of American Board of Certified Haircolorist detailing the action of a large haircolor, and product manufacturers behavior on not getting their way.

ABCH 6N Comparison Completed!!!

We have completed our study of the 56 haircolor formulations and they are ready for release.  I think you will enjoy viewing and reading the results.  The very best way of studying the results is to view the boards in person.  That is an impossibly, so we are going to give you the opportunity to purchase 11×17 copies of the 4 boards and the 6 pages of statistics of the entire study.  We will make this information available to you for $30.00.  This includes a DVD showing exactly how the study was conducted.  To help you decide we have placed the entire study on our website at haircolorist.com  Click on “news”. Our goal in conducting this study is to dispel some of the falsehoods that exist regarding haircolor products and the ludicrous claims made.  We will never be able to progress as an industry if we place our successes on a product rather than our ability as professionals.
Several years ago I conducted a similar comparison on red haircolors.  We did not have the Internet at the time so the study was known to very few people.  It did however catch the attention of some executives of the L’Oreal company.  One executive in particular approached me and indicated he would like to speak to me privately.  I recall at the time I was very excited.  At the time I was soliciting funds to help grow ABCH and surely they would look upon my efforts with favor.  As I was herded into a room with 4 executives surrounding me with stern looks on their faces, one said to me, “You can’t do these kind of things if you expect us (L’Oreal) to support you”. he was speaking of the red comparison. I told him that I showed the comparison to several haircolorists and they loved it!  To which he replied, “Andre, that is more information than haircolorists would ever need”. In other words his message to me was he would rather have haircolorist ignorant.  This was a complete contradiction to what the ABCH is all about.  As a result of that meeting I never published the results of that comparison.  None the less L’Oreal never supported us and continue their non support.   So to L’Oreal This 6N comparison is for you!
more beautiful place.  HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU!

To all of the hard-working haircolorists who toil in the trenches each day to make America

It is all of you who make the beauty industry what it is.  NOT the manufacturers, NOT the schools, NOT the distributors.  Without the hard-working hairdressers and haircolorists there would be no need for the aforementioned.

It was amazing speaking to Mr Nizetich and knowing that there are professionals within our profession who have a level of standard that is simply remarkable. You see I am sure Mr Nizetich has no reason to make up such a story. If you really read between the lines this man has character, and values. And it is quite refreshing to see someone stand up to the Manufacture’s.

Thank You Mr Nizetich, and welcome to the Real Hair Truth!

And L’oreal Pleasure to meet you and I will expose you soon!

Albie Mulcahy Interviewed for THE REAL HAIR TRUTH

Albie Mulcahy

               Albie Mulcahy

Scissors in hand, Albie Mulcahy gazes wistfully out the salon windows at the passing traffic on Fourth Street N.

He’s a chain-smoking slip of a hairstylist, a cross between pop artist Andy Warhol and ’80s rocker Billy Idol.

He doesn’t cut and tell, but he once toured with the Sex Pistols. He knows famed stylist Paul Mitchell. He is the former right-hand man of deceased rock star stylist John Sahag.

His lifestyle is fast and furious. He flies to seven different cities every two months to tend to rich and famous clients. In the past 15 years he has lived in New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles and Tokyo.

Three years ago, Mulcahy moved to St. Petersburg to put the brakes on the frequent-flier life.

At 56, Mulcahy is teenage hip, with spiky bleached blond hair, black jeans, black hoodie and black ankle boots. Two chunky silver crucifixes hang from his plunging neckline.

He has a close following among the city’s artsy crowd, aspiring models, young hipsters.

He calls his salon, the Velvet Lounge.

So far he’s relied on word of mouth, his MySpace page and local art events to bring in customers.

Mulcahy was born in Boston, one of five children of Irish Catholic parents. He grew up poor and dreamed of being a famous rock star.

After spending a year in Vietnam and overcoming a nasty drug habit, he watched the movie Shampoo and knew he wanted to become a hairstylist.

“It sounds like a cliche,” he said, “but it’s true.”

He opened a salon in Boston and met Paul Mitchell, becoming one of his educators. He later joined with Sahag in New York, who taught him the dry-cutting technique.

It’s been 12 years since Mulcahy has cut hair wet.

Mulcahy said he now is dedicated to teaching other stylists what he knows through his new educational training venture with business partner Dwight Miller called V L V T academies.

Originally, Mulcahy wanted to fly under the radar in St. Petersburg, but now he wants his name out.

“I want to put St. Petersburg on the map for the hair industry to learn,” he said. “I think it has that capability.”

Cheryl Roose Donor for The Real Hair Truth

Cheryl Roose

As a salon owner, my successes were rewarding. However, my competitive nature drove me to challenge
myself further. In 1987 I sold my salon and moved to Edmonton where I took a job as a stylist.  Within a month,
I was let go because I did not fit the company image.

Little did I realize that this was the experience that would challenge me to explore exactly what a
“company image” was. In this era of the salon industry, I drove to the next salon and was hired.
Being that building a clientèle has always been strength of mine, just a few months later I had a full clientèle.
My career in this location supported me through a wonderful marriage and the birth of two beautiful daughters.
Fulfillment had graced my personal life but my competitive nature as a stylist had me venture to a larger
salon with more opportunity for growth.

My journey into education began with the foundation of Suki’s precision cutting techniques and various
industry technical training and continued with Wayne Grund’s “The five keys to success”. At this point I felt
ready and joined the arena of a competition stylist.

One day the owner of the salon walked out and the opportunity for entrepreneurship made me a
salon owner for the second time.  In transition of my new ownership, the current staff walked out and
I was left with a huge salon, no stylists, 2 babies and no idea of what to do next. I was soon faced with the
challenges of hiring new employees and being held hostage by high commissions and the need to hold
on to them to pay the bills.

I soon found that being a successful stylist does not make you a successful salon owner. Reflection
upon my previous education ignited my love of service, integrity in my work and a deep desire to bring
dignity to the salon industry. My vision led me to the Strategies training program where I first learned about
my passion for systems and structure. Recognizing I needed guidance with leading employees, I took
courses in effective employee behavior, human resources and leadership training through skill path seminars.
Various marketing and motivational courses followed with some wonderful speakers such as Harv Eker,
Dr. Lou, Eric Manual and Wayne Grund. My experience soon taught me that to be a great leader I must
inspire my people which has led me to my most rewarding journey of personal development and studying
human nature. Brian Tracey’s “Psychology of achievement” and Stephen Coveys “The 7 habits of highly
effective people” were the first of my mentors and both continue to be strong reference points for me.
Inspiration has also led me to the teachings of Carolyn Myss, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Eric Butterworth, Louise Hay,
Sanaya Roman and Eric Holmes.

I designed my first training manual, incorporated systems, scripts, policies and procedures. In 2004,
I hired my business coach and mentor, Miranda Webb of Leading Edge Business Training; she has
helped me reach the next level of business. I was then rewarded with skilled technicians, a strong foundation
of salon clientèle, retained clients, consistency in team members, a standard of service, sustained revenues
and a true team environment.

Since the incorporation of these systems I have had the privilege to lead seminars in the beauty schools.
I continue to volunteer my expertise to assist others to develop their life skills and expand their potential.
I have also been honored in apprenticing technicians and I have seen jobs turn into careers. In the last few
years these systems supported me through every salon nightmare and have given me the opportunities to
become stronger as a person and business owner.

I challenge you to do the same.
